Finding more to life outside of a 9 to 5

Joycelyn Ting

A bit about me

I used to be caught up in the deep dark depths of corporate consulting—early mornings, late nights, and a calendar packed with back-to-back meetings. My life looked successful from the outside, but inside, I felt disconnected. I watched my early twenties slip by, filled with nothing but work, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that life was happening without me.

I discovered a quiet joy in volunteering with animals. Helping foster dogs, adopting my own greyhound Joonie, doing the messy, unglamorous work of rescue—it gave me a sense of passion and energy. For the first time in years, I felt grounded, useful, and genuinely fulfilled.

When Joonie passed last August, it broke my heart—but she also left me with a sense of clarity. That chapter of my life had shown me what purpose really felt like.

So, I made a bold move. I hit pause on the career I had worked so hard to build and booked a one-way ticket with no plans—just a backpack and a desire to find something more.
